NEW ALBUM! LUMINOUS AS IT IS

Coda Chroma's fourth album LUMINOUS AS IT IS takes its name from a line in Mary Oliver's poem "Summer Morning" and is a snapshot in time of Kate's perpetual songwriting practice and her deep connection to nature. The album is steeped in themes of consumerism, environmentalism, friendship, and death, expressed through Coda Chroma's signature poetic, abstract lens.

 

A companion piece to Coda Chroma's 2023 LP release Dreamself, LUMINOUS AS IT IS features nylon string guitars, vintage synths, and compelling vocal melodies. Although the songs move through a range of musical genres including jazz, pop, and psychedelia this album is undeniably the most folky Coda record so far.

 

Coda Chroma (Kate Lucas) teamed up once again with Kiwi producer Damien Charles (William Crighton, Melody Pool) and musicians Nat Lewis (Ainslie Wills), Holly Thomas (Husky, Quivers), Isaac Barter (Didirri, Charm of Finches), to record LUMINOUS AS IT IS. The result is a deeply immersive listening experience, for music lovers who crave harmonic complexity, nuanced production, and authentic songwriting.

DREAMSELF (2023)
Dreamself is the third studio album from Kate Lucas aka Coda Chroma and celebrates the liminal space between awake and asleep, where stories unfold mostly through abstraction with a few direct hits.
Dreamself plays with shadows and light in a landscape where fragile introspection is at home alongside upbeat jangle-pop, and synthetic sounds mess around with acoustic instrumentation. Matched with the immaculate work of producer Damien Charles, the album features a string ensemble, swirling layers of synthesisers, a driving rhythm section and ethereal backing vocals by Natalie Lewis - head to Bandcamp for a listen

INSIDE THE STILL LIFE  (2019) (double LP) 
Coda Chroma's 2nd album is a major progression from the debut album. Her sophisticated pop sensibility only partially disguises a more intense, brooding, and  existential underbelly on this double album. Teaming up once again with producer Damien Charles, this beautifully diverse set of songs creates a metaphysical listening experience.

The album is available on limited edition double vinyl, CD via Bandcamp, and is streaming on all the usual platforms

CODA CHROMA (2017)
Coda Chroma’s self-titled debut album lays out a wonderfully vast landscape, from the darkly empathic opening track “Camera” to the muscular chromatic pop of “Fishing Line,” the smouldering soul confession that is “No One But You” all the way to the woozy, hypnotic finale “Indian Summer,” we are led through a kaleidoscopic world that shimmers with flecks of gold and grit.
